Aircraft Covering Materials - Solarfilm Airspan

Click on image for a larger version.

Airspan is a very light, thin polyester fibre tissue which is much stronger and more puncture resistant than normal doped tissue. It is slightly porous so needs a light coat of dope to seal but this is not essential as the material is not affected by moisture or fuels. Supplied as a 91cm x 50cm (36"x 19½") sheet. Weight 24-28 g.s.m.

Airspan is designed to replace tissue/dope on models from small rubber driven free flight to lightweight power models up to 1.27m span. It is very good on flexible airframes as Airspan/dope will stiffen the frame better than Litespan.

Use Balsaloc or Cover Grip as an adhesive; apply using a sponge and then iron on the Airspan to activate the adhesive. Alternatively, dope the airframe and allow to dry, then lay the Airspan on and paint edges with dope thinners.
