Model Kit Shipping
The method used for and, hence the cost of, shipping for model kits depends largely on the length of the balsa sheets in the kit. Many of the more recently released micro kits use 12" (300mm) or 14" (355mm) long sheets. These can be sent via 'Small Package' 1st class post in the UK and via Airmail for international destinations.
The cost of using 1st class post for kits with sheets longer than 400mm is relatively high and so we currently use Hermes Ltd. The shipping time with Hermes is 3 working days - we feel that this is a small penalty for a cost approximately half that with Royal Mail.
Kits with balsa sheets longer than 550mm cannot be sent via Airmail due to the maximum package length of 600mm. As the cost of an international parcel service is very high, we will always contact the customer to discuss shipping options. Sometimes it is possible to cut down the balsa sheets so that the kit can fit within the airmail maximum package dimension. When this is done, cuts are made in-between the balsa parts so that all parts remain attached the sheet and are unaffected by the cut.
Kits under 400mm shipping length
These kits can all be sent via 1st class post in the UK and via airmail for
international destinations. Orders with two or more of these of these kits
may require a box which exceeds the small kit dimensions.
In this case, UK orders will be sent using Hermes.
If ordering from outside the UK, please
before placing the order to verify the shipping method and cost.
Kits over 400mm shipping length
These kits will be sent using Hermes in the UK and require an
international parcel service for destinations outside the UK. If you
are ordering from outside the UK, please
before placing the order so that we can discuss shipping options.
