Sound Modules

Sound modules for model rail. Suitable speakers are on a separate page.

The sound modules have 1 or more trigger inputs (horn, whistle, etc). These require switching to ground/negative to action the sound. A Micron receiver F switch pad is ideal for this. MyLocoSound triggers may also be controlled using a receiver P output which is a 0V/3.3V logic level - a series 4k7 ohm resistor is required Configure the P output to be high when off and low (0V) when the sound is to be triggered.


MyLocoSound Large Scale Sound Module

Sound modules for the larger scale railways: O Gauge, SM32, Gauge 1 & 3 and G Scale. Highly adjustable to suit a wide variety of UK, European and USA locomotives.

The Classic cards have been discontinued.

To achieve great realism, MyLocoSound Universal uses a blend of recorded sounds from actual locos with the adjustability of synthesised sound. A handheld remote control is used to make all adjustments and to configure the sound module from outside the locomotive. This remote control is available separately as only one is needed to work with any number of MyLocoSound modules.

Dimensions: 55mm x 32mm x 12mm. Working voltage: 7.2V - 24V, 24V is an absolute maximum.

Whilst ideal for use with a Micron receiver (e.g. MR603), the MyLocoSound Large Scale Sound Module also works well with simple track powered model railways. On these, the sounds can be triggered in three ways:

  1. the steam whistle and diesel/electric horn can be set to sound automatically when the loco moves off and at timed intervals when running;
  2. trackside magnets and loco mounted reed switches can be used to trigger any of the sounds at selected positions on the railway;
  3. the remote control can be used to trigger any of the sounds, but only from short distances
When triggering from a Micron MR603 receiver, F outputs may be connected directly to the MyLocoSound trigger inputs, P outputs require a series 4k7 ohm resistor to compensate for the 3.3V on the receiver side and 5V on the MyLocoSound side.

Electronic Whistle for Live Steam Locos

Description:

For large scale, live steam locomotives there are steam powered whistles available. The problem is that they very rarely sound like the prototype locomotive's whistle. The solution is an electronic whistle which plays recordings of the real thing and can be triggered by the same radio control which is driving the locomotive.

Installation is easy. Just plug the whistle servo lead into a space servo socket on your R/C receiver. Then locate the whistle unit and speaker anywhere on the locomotive but not too close to the burner.

The whistle is triggered by the servo signal momentarily going low. For example: use P5 on a MR001d and trigger the sound using the bind button. If you need to use a receiver output that goes high on activation, select 'HIGH ONLY' in the menu below. The whistle unit is easily reconfigured should you need to change how it is connected to the receiver.

A library of recorded whistles has been created by MyLocoSound and available from their website as well as here. Each whistle set contains six instances of the selected whistle in a ZIP file. That ZIP file can be downloaded into your computer using the links below . You then extract the whistles into the Micro SD card in the sound unit. These whistle sets are free and you can swap them over at any time.
